Yoga in Africa

Prana Vinyasa (501)(c )(3) in conjunction with Tunisia Still point is dedicated to introducing yoga to Northern Africa.  We have recruited very experienced yoga teachers who are committed to the teaching of yoga within this project.  It is hoped that the conference will occur on an annual basis slowly building each year on the groundwork of the previous years efforts.

The main aim of the Teacher Training Conference is to raise money to allow the program to sponsor student teachers from the local population so that they may in turn extend their yoga teaching practises to others.  Those involved in the program will train to gain International  recognized yoga qualifications, through Yoga Alliance.

The  Teacher Training Conference is open to students from other countries that want to work towards their qualification in a atmosphere that is based upon this type of intensive program.  Those taking part in the entire 21 day intensive program will be able to accrue 200 hours towards their initial qualification.  Those who wish to take part of the course will receive an attendance certificate which will record their hours so that they may continue to build upon them in the future.

The Teacher Training Conference also aims to introduce yoga to those individuals who are in the positions in this country to understand the value of yoga to many different populations. i.e. through the educational system, for those children who may be challenged and not in mainstream provision, for those people who would not normally be able to afford regular supervised asana practice.

The Principals of the Teachers

The principles of the teachers teaching during the Teacher Training Conference are to give the student practitioner important ingredients to help develop physical, mental and emotional mastery in their own asana practice, and to develop their teaching methods to professional levels that ensure student growth, education and safety.

The Principles on which all Teaching takes place are:

Each student will benefit not only from the teaching input but also from the personal growth they will experience during the conference. Each student will benefit from

  • Relaxation: consciously release each muscle, creating inner peace so that both inner and outer body becomes still.

  • Empty Mind:  become the observer, watch wait and listen with acceptance and grace we watch ourselves from the inside, incorporating this into asana practice allows the possibility of something new to emerge.

  • Intent: we are intent to learn ancient forms of movement and breathe while keeping the body calm, agreeing to become empty so that we may fill.

  • Grounding: Connection to the earth is the source of knowledgeable intuition. Through concentration we connect all parts with the center.

  • Pranayama: is the connection between all of the above.  Freedom in alignment is truly possible when practice is connected to the breath. All the above principles combine to allow limitless and effortless movement.

Student Outcome

Each student/practitioner will leave the course having been included, exposed and immersed in a rich learning program. All will have been exposed to yoga asana techniques, personal instruction, voice and leadership training, studies in yoga philosophy and an introduction to or further grounding in the yogic lifestyle. Each will have benefited from experienced instructors who utilize a hands-on approach to teaching.
